TASILA LUNGU’s Sinda farm forfeited

The Economic and Financial Crimes Court has ordered the forfeiture to the State a farm in Sinda District, belonging to Former President EDGAR LUNGU’s daughter TASILA.

The SINDA Farm valued over EIGHT Million Kwacha is deemed to be a proceed of crime.

The Order of Forfeiture on the Farm has been issued by the Economic and Financial Crimes Court today.

Economic Financial Crimes Court Judges, VINCENT SILOKA, PIXIE YANGAILO and SUZEN WENJELA presided over the case.

Reading the judgment, Judge SILOKA noted the court has concurred with the Director of Public Prosecutions –DPP- GILBERT PHIRI that there is reasonable suspicion that TASILA’s Sinda Farm is a proceed of crime.

Judge SILOKA has cited Section two of the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act Number 19 of 2010.

He also noted that TASILA’s income between June 2015 and August 2021 was K154, 200 against over Eight million Kwacha value of the farm.

Judge SILOKA also ruled that in non-conviction Forfeiture, the DPP does not need to necessarily link the suspected tainted property to the Commission of any crime.

This is in a matter where TASILA LUNGU MWANSA who is also Chawama Member of Parliament had contested the State’s Application for a non conviction forfeiture of her farm in SINDA District deemed to be a proceed of crime.

Possession of property deemed to be proceeds of crime is repugnant to Section 71 of the Forfeiture of Proceed of Crime Act Number 19 of 2010. ZNBC.
