Tanzanian driver arrested for theft

A Tanzanian truck driver has been apprehended for allegedly stealing 34,000 liters of diesel which was in transit from Dar es Salaam enroute to Ndola.

Police say that Edwin Malande aged 33 was apprehended while in the process of abandoning an empty tanker truck between Ndola and Kapiri Mposhi.

And Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale said that Money amounting to K161,970 has since been recovered from Malande which he said was part payment of the diesel he sold to unknown people.

“Police in Kapiri Mposhi District received a report of theft of goods in transit in which a Tanzania Truck driver identified as Edwin Malande aged 33 was apprehended while in the process of abandoning the empty tanker truck, the incident occurred on March 1, 2022 at around 18:00 hours between Ndola and Kapiri Mposhi,” he said

Mr Mwale said initial investigations have revealed that a Scania Tanker truck registration number T795 DLF was loaded with 34000 liters of Diesel in Dar es Salaam enroute to Ndola but the driver decided to sale the diesel between Ndola and Kapiri Mposhi and while in the process of abandoning the empty truck, he was apprehended by one of the company representatives.

Mr Mwale said Malande is currently in Police custody while Police are still investigating the matter.
