A-35-year-old driver, has been detained and arrested for dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
The incident occurred on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at approximately 18:00 hours along the Great East Road at the Munali Traffic Circle.
Humphrey Musonda, a resident of Emmasdale, Lusaka, was driving a Renault Tanker laden with diesel when it overturned after hitting a pavement due to excessive speed.
Investigations revealed that Musonda was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, which impaired his judgment and ability to safely control the vehicle.
Musonda sustained minor injuries and was treated and discharged from Levy Mwanawasa Hospital before being taken into custody.
He has been charged with dangerous driving contrary to Section 155 of the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002 and driving under the influence of alcohol contrary to Section 157 of the Road Traffic Act No. 11 of 2002.
He will appear in court soon.
The Zambia Police Service has reminded motorists that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offense that endangers lives and is punishable by law.
