Suspected cholera case reported in Monze

Monze Town Council wishes to inform the public that a suspected case of cholera has been reported in Monze.

The patient, a resident of Lusaka, had come to the Njola Mwanza area for her annual farming activities and is currently receiving treatment at Monze Mission hospital.

Upon receiving the report, Provincial and District Officials have convened an emergency meeting at Monze Civic Center to map out solutions to contain the outbreak before it spreads.

Monze District Commissioner Mwanza Malambo who chaired the meeting called on all stakeholders to work together in ensuring that the disease does not spread to other areas.

In response to the situation, the District health team has put in place two rapid response teams to respond to any suspected cholera case that may be reported. The goal is to prevent the spread of the disease to other areas and to provide necessary support and treatment to would be affected individuals.

Cholera is a bacterial disease that spreads through contaminated water or food. We therefore, urge members of the public to exercise caution and practice good hygiene and sanitation habits, such as washing hands frequently with soap, drinking clean water, and properly disposing of waste.

The Local Authority, District Health Department and Other Stakeholders will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as necessary.

This is contained in a statement issued by Kanchele Kanchele Public Relations Officer Monze Town Council.
