Surveillance camera aimed at enhancing security-Kampyongo

Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo says the Safe City campaign project that the government has embarked on by putting surveillance cameras around the cities has reached an advanced stage.

Speaking in an interview, Mr Kampyongo said the essence of the project is to enhance security in the cities and to the general public.

The Minister said the government has invested a lot of money in security in order to shrink space for criminals, monitor the vehicles and reduce corruption especially to Police Officers.

“We want to avoid human interaction, instead of human presence; a camera will do the job and put officers at command Centre’s. This will overcome the challenge of Police Officers asking for the money from motorists, it will also help track motorists who don’t observe traffic rules and regulations on the road, “he said

He said the project has first caters for Lusaka, Ndola Kitwe and Livingstone being the tourist town and other cities shall follow.

Mr Kampyongo said that the country can only attract investors when there is security in the country.

He said there is need for the government to secure people cars and other properties as they conduct business and do their daily work.

Mr Kampyongo also assured the public that the police are ready and well equipped for August 12, general elections.

He further encouraged the police officers to execute their duties without fear and favor regardless of their political affiliation.
