Stay in boyfriend set girlfriends house on fire

A-42-year-old man of Mpongwe has set ablaze his girlfriend’s house after they had a dispute.

Maureen Mwendela 45, the girlfriend to the suspect of Mwendela village reported that her house was set ablaze by her boyfriend  whom she stays with after they had a dispute.

Her property (house hold goods) which included Sofas, bed, mattress, a Television Set, beddings and others altogether valued at K32, 950.00 were burnt to ashes.

This occurred between December 5, 2022 at 20:00 hours and December 6, 2022 at 03:00 hours at Mwendela village.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said that the suspect has been staying at the complainant’s house for the past 5 months.

Mr Mweemba said on December 5, 2022 at 20:00 hours the two had a dispute so the complainant decided to leave the house stating that the suspect was drunk and was disturbing her sleep.

He said after leaving her house she informed her sister who stays in the neighborhood that she was going to seek refuge at her brothers’ house within Mpongwe and she left.

“Around 03:00hrs the sister to the complainant Judith Mwendela was awakened by unusual sounds from outside and when she went outside she found her sister’s house on fire. With the help of neighbors, they managed to put off the fire but the above mentioned property was burnt to ashes,” he said.

Police visited the scene of crime and the suspect has been apprehended and he will appear in court soon.
