Zambia Army Southern Province Formation Commander Salimu Chanda has assured the Government that all the maize which the Food Reserve Agency bought from farmers in Livingstone is safe.
Mr Chanda said the maize shed in Livingstone is much smaller than the ones in Choma and Kalomo districts.
And Southern Province Minister Cornelius Mweetwa said all the maize which the FRA bought from farmers in Livingstone during the last marketing season has been collected and secured against the rains.
Mr Mweetwa and officials from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit also visited families whose houses had their roofs blown off recently by strong winds.
The affected families also received some donated food items from the DMMU through the minister.
Mr Mweetwa said the people of Southern Province should count on the Government to come to their aid in times of disasters.
