Solwezi unplanned settlements opened up

Solwezi Municipal Council has started grading feeder roads in unplanned settlements to ease accessibility.

The works are meant to put to work the grader which Solwezi Council had bought last year at accost of K 3.4 million from its local resources.

Solwezi Assistant Public Relations Manager Esther Chirwa has told The Independent Observer that the upgrading of feeder roads will ease access and movement within the compounds.

Ms Chirwa said the graded feeder roads will also propel economic development of the district.

“In our pursuit to provide sustainable, all-inclusive development, the Council has continued its mission to open up roads in all the 13 unplanned settlements in the district. This means fire tenders in case of fire can easily navigate to the area, the ambulance and other service providing vehicles can easily reach out to the settlement.

“Among the unplanned settlements is Muzabula compound where 5 Kilometres of roads has been opened up so far. The Local Authority has so far graded thirty-one (31) roads in the district in an effort to make them passable for motorists and pedestrians,” she said.

She said the roads worked on so far are Cross roads, Wisdom Market – Kandemba primary, Kimiteto cemetery road, Chabanga – Hospital, Coppers corner – Messengers road, Urban clinic through to beats Fm, Kimiteto school road, inner roads in stadium among others.
