Solwezi District Civic Leaders take oath

Solwezi Mayor Remmy Kalepa and 12 Councillors of Solwezi who were duly elected in the August 12th General Election have been sworn into office to begin performing duty in their various portfolios.

Mr Kalepa and the 12 Councillors took oath before Chief Resident Magistrate Honourable Davies Chibwili at a ceremony which was held within the Solwezi Municipal Council premises.

In his remarks, Honourable Chibwili stated that in as much as the ceremony was short, it was a cardinal function as it opened the doors for the elected leaders to perform their functions in Solwezi district.

He urged the sworn in Civic Leaders to acquaint themselves with the Local Government Act and all pieces of legislation that govern operations of Local Authorities to avoid conflict between themselves and Council officers.

The Civic Leaders were also advised to execute their duties diligently and satisfy the high expectations of the people of Solwezi.

Among the Councillors sworn in was: Loves Soneka of Kamalamba ward; Collins Chiwaya of Kazhiba ward; Alice Lubasi representing community members in Kifubwa ward and Adrian Nkolomba of Kimale ward. Others were: Bernard Kakinga for Kimasala ward; Olivia Katanga from Kivuku ward; Fickson Mwanaute representing Kyafukuma ward; Davy Mubiana of Kyalalankuba ward and Mutoshi Kakoma from Kyawama ward.

The Chief Resident Magistrate also swore in Kapelembe Manix of Sandangombe ward; Saviye Kayombo for Tumvwanganai ward while Councillor Alex Pupe retained his position as civic leader for Kapijimpanga ward.
