Solwezi Mayor Remmy Kalepa says he is open to receive spiritual guidance and mentorship from the Church in order for him to provide exceptional leadership in serving the people of Solwezi.
Speaking during the official opening of St Kizito Parish new church, the Mayor said that the Local Authority and the church all save the same people hence the more reason why he his opening his office for mentorship.
The Mayor was invited us guest of honor by Solwezi Diocese Bishop Reverend Charles Joseph Kasonde.
Mr Kalepa who is Catholic by faith could not hold back his joy for having been invited at such a memorable event not only in his Official capacity, but also on a personal level stating that the strong Catholic, Christian foundation he has and values instilled in him from the time he was young, have greatly contributed to him being where he is.
The Mayor acknowledged the critical role that the Church plays in the development process and hence urged the members to continue partnering with the local authority as the Church and people in other spheres of authority complement each other in serving communities they are entrusted with.
He also commended the St. Kizito leadership and its members for being united, heeding to and acting upon God’s call for them to build his temple through material and/or financial contributions.
Mr Kalepa assured the Church that the new dawn Government under the leadership of President Hakainde Hichilema is committed to working with the Church in fostering unity and oneness in the development agenda.
He further stated that the municipality will also support such projects even as the district works towards attaining the City Status.
Meanwhile, Solwezi diocese Bishop, Right Reverend Kasonde said the building project was inevitable considering the growing patronage of members.
The St. Kizito new Church building project which commenced in April, 2017 was today dedicated to the LORD, ready for use at a colourful ceremony held within the Church premises.
At the same event where the Parish Priest Fr Maximillian Mwelwa, Clergy from various parishes and the Laity among others were also present, the Mayor pledged a donation of K8, 000 towards the purchase of Church benches which are part of the outstanding requirements for completion of the project.
