Solwezi Council opens first pre-school at Kimasala

Solwezi Municipal Council has opened its first pre-school at Kimasala Community Centre.

The pre-school which commenced operations on Monday January 13, 2020 is an opportunity for the less privileged children in the district to access early childhood and care services thereby grow into effective future leaders.

Solwezi Municipal Council Public Relations Officer Joy Sichizya said the literacy levels in the Solwezi community particularly among those who cannot afford to take their children to school will be improved.

Ms Sichizya said the local authority is mandated by the Local Government Act No. 2 of 2019 to provide services that will enhance community development in its area of jurisdiction.

She said the Council’s move to open a pre-school is also in line with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) No. 4 which emphasises on inclusive and quality learning opportunities for all.

Ms Sichizya said the Council targets to have a class of 20 children between the ages of 3-5years and has so far enrolled 8 children.

“All interested parents and Guardians are encouraged to have their children enrolled at the Council led pre-school where quality education is guaranteed,” she said.
