Solwezi Municipal Council has bought a Tractor and Trailer at a total cost of K335, 036.00 to enhance garbage collection in the district.
Solwezi Municipal Council Assistant Public Relations Manager Esther Chirwa said the equipment has been acquired using locally generated revenue and will boost waste collection as well as improve the general cleanliness of the district.
Ms Chirwa said the Tractor is in addition to the Skip Truck, Tipper Truck and Front End Loader which are already being used for collection of garbage.
She said residents of Solwezi are urged to desist from dumping garbage in undesignated places and encouraged to subscribe for waste collection in order to support the management of solid waste by the Council.
“The Local Authority is mandated to provide services within its area of jurisdiction, among them, collection of waste in public places to ensure Public Health Standards are upheld,” she said.
