Solwezi Municipal Council has awarded four female council officers for their outstanding performance during the civic year to climax the cerebration of Women’s Day.
Those awarded are the Director of Finance Agness Tapisha Aongola, Sergeant Jolline Belemu Kotoni, who is a Council Police Officer for their dedication, effort and commitment to duty.
Others are Emeldah Mwale, a Registry Clerk who was recognized for her dedication to duty and long service and has been a shining example both at personal and institutional level.
Ruth Samawinu who is an Office Orderly was recognized for her outstanding achievements in the area of sports particularly in the 2019 Zambia Local Authorities Sports Association (ZALASA) games Women’s 10Km Marathon and the Southern Africa Inter Municipal Sports Association (SAIMSA) games where she emerged first and second respectively.
Solwezi Town Clerk Bornwell Luanga said the Council recognizes the enormous and remarkable role that women play at institutional, family as well as community levels.
“In view of the immeasurable contribution towards development that women offer in society, Solwezi Municipal Council will continue supporting women in all human developmental endeavours,” Mr Luanga said.
The country yesterday commemorating International Women’s Day held under the theme “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights.”
Present at the event were North Western Province Permanent Secretary Willies Manjimela with his Douglas Ngimbu, Assistant Secretary Beatrice Muyambango, Solwezi Central Member of Parliament Stafford Mulusa, the Deputy Mayor Bernard Sokotela, Councillors, the District Commissioner Rosemary Kamalonga, Town Clerk Mr Luanga, among other senior Government officials and other stakeholders.
