Solwezi: Community drink water polluted with decomposed body

 By ALICE NACHILEMBE
The body of a- 22-year-old man of Solwezi has been discovered in a decomposing state in a well where residents draw drinking water.

North-Western Police Chief Hudson Namachila confirmed the development to The Independent Observer in a telephone interview that Victor Chinyanta, of Messengers Township went missing on Friday May 3, 2019.

Mr Namachila said the victim was last seen in the evening of May 3, near Solwezi Tumvwananai School ground.

He said the body was discovered yesterday May 7, 2019 in a well which is one kilometre from his home.

Mr Namachila said many locals in the area have been using the well for drinking, bathing and cooking.

“It was only after one community member noticed that the water he was drinking had a strange smell, that is when the people decide to inspect the well and discovered the decomposing body,” he said.

He said the police suspect foul play and are treating it as murder because his private parts were found swollen as well as the tummy and the tongue was protruding.

The Commissioner said this comes after residents of Solwezi had complained about a gang of thugs known as Katondo boys terrorising residents with several complaints of theft, assault, rapes and harassment.
