SIX ARRESTED FOR AIDING PRISONER’S ESCAPE

The Zambia Police Service has announced the arrest of six individuals, including Lombe Chali, one of the wives of Jay Emmanuel Banda, who escaped from lawful custody at Chipata General Hospital.

Lombe Chali was arrested and charged on August 9, 2024, and later released on police bond. Further investigations led to the arrest of two police officers, Mfungwe Phineas and Kabole Benson, and three prison warders, Sakala Moses, Nathan Mbao, and Musa Spider Zulu, on August 12, 2024. They were also released on police bond after being charged with Aiding a Prisoner to Escape, contrary to Section 120 Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

All six suspects will appear in court soon to face charges. The Zambia Police Service reaffirms its commitment to upholding the law and holding accountable those who breach it, regardless of status or position.

The police assure the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to ensure justice is served. They encourage citizens to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

Rae Hamoonga, Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrests and emphasized the police’s dedication to maintaining law and order.
