UPND member and Ndola entrepreneur Mellbin Simangolwa has announced his plan to contest the Kabushi Parliamentary by-election on the UPND ticket.
Former Lusaka Province Minister Bowman Lusambo on Thursday lost the Kabushi Parliamentary Seat as the Constitutional Court upheld the decision of the Ndola High Court to declare his election void.
The nullification has paved the way for a by-election in Kabushi Constituency.
Mr Simangolwa has told journalists in Ndola that he wants to contribute to the development of Kabushi Constituency.
“I am a bonafide Kabushi resident and UPND member. I feel it’s time for Kabushi to join the Champions league. President Hakainde Hichilema has created the best political atmosphere for Zambian to contribute to the development of his or her country and that why I apply for adoption under my party, the ruling party,” he said.
The owner of Kabushi Entrepreneurship and Vocational Training Centre (KEVTC) is confident of representing the UPND well in the Kabushi Parliamentary by-election.
“I am seeking an adoption on UPND ticket when there is a by-election. I have been a member of UPND since 2006 and in 2008 I served as Copperbelt provincial Information and Publicity Secretary (IPS) both under Joe Kalusa as chairman and Elisha Matambo (Copperbelt Minister) I am well established and have a well-established business in Kabushi called Kabushi Entrepreneurship and Vocational Training Centre (KEVTC),” Mr. Simangolwa said.
United Party for National Development (UPND) losing candidate in Kabushi Bernard Kanengo petitioned for Mr Lusambo’s victory citing malpractice before and during the August 12 General elections.
Lusaka High Court Judge Edward Musona sitting in Ndola nullified the seat stating wide spread violence noting that Mr Lusambo did not disassociate himself from his militia group known ‘the Nato Forces’, which was attacking the electorates.
