The Zambia Women’s National Team has overcome stubborn Malawi to reach the final qualifying round of the 2022 African Women’s Championship to be held in Morocco.

Shepolopolo have advanced to the final qualifying round after eliminating Malawi 4-3 on aggregate.

Zambia on Tuesday afternoon beat Malawi 3-2 at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka in the final leg just days after the first leg match finished 1-1 in Lilongwe.

Defender Lushomo Mweemba scored the winning goal in the last fifteen minutes to rescue Zambia from exiting the qualifiers.

Europe based star striker Rachael Kundananji scored two goals for Zambia in the first half with Asimenye Simwaka and Wezi Mvula scoring a goal each for Malawi.

The Malawians scored first at Nkoloma Stadium through Simwaka whose 7th minute goal was cancelled by Kundananji’s equaliser on 24 minutes.

Kundananji helped Zambia to take a 2-1 lead into the break when scoring after 41 minutes.

Malawi made it 2-2 in the 71st minute with a goal inked by Mvula but Mweemba rescued Zambia from elimination with a winning goal three minutes later.

Meanwhile, Zambia will face Namibia in the final qualifying round.
