The Emerald and Precious Stone Mining Association of Zambia (ESMAZ) has advised one of the daily Newspapers to desist from attacking and publishing statements that boarder on creating anarchy in the country.

Speaking in an interview today ESMAZ President Victor Kalesha said the Daily Nation Newspaper is been used as a tool to create confusions that is leading to issuing of malicious statements that can damage relations between Zambia and Russia.

Mr Kalesha said ESMAZ is saddened by the squabbles going on at Gemcaton as reported by the daily nation newspaper that a Russian business man was kidnap when facts are that the said businessman was dismissed by the company and sent back to his country of origin as per terms of his contract.

He noted that the people peddling such lies about the Gemcaton should desist from doing so as the industry is at risk of losing out.

Mr Kalesha said such careless malicious reporting by the newspaper is scandalizing the emerald sector thereby making the sector lose potential investors as what is reported will be taken as the truth of what is happening in Zambia.

He has since urged the media to be conscious in their reporting and not let anyone use them as tools for destruction.

And Gemcanton spokesperson Davy Phiri in a statement released to the media said the decision to terminate the services of Sergey Kuznetsov a business executive was based on administrative reasons.

Mr Phiri stated that Kuznetsov failed to account for 4,869 grammes of gemstones valued at $ 317, 095.36 during the last auction sale which was held at hotel InterContinental which he was responsible for.

Mr Phiri further states that the company lost revenue in access of $ 13,485 because Mr Kutnetsov underpriced a certain parcel that was sent to a customer.

He however wondered why the case of Sergey Kuznetsov has attracted media attention when his services where just terminated by the company and not kidnap as reported in the daily nation newspaper.
