Serenje Town Council Chairperson Staivous Mulumba says he will bring development closer to the people of Selenje by engaging the new dawn administration.
Speaking yesterday when he held a series of meetings with institutional heads at Malcolm Moffat College of Education and Serenje Nursing School, Mr Mulumba said the challenges being faced by the two government schools can largely be resolved if his office engages the new Government.
He said politics must be put aside if the District is to develop.
Mr Mulumba said that he will soon be engaging the two Members of Parliament for Serenje Central George Kandafula and Emmanuel Banda in order to start opening up the township roads including the rehabilitation of the road connecting at Malcolm Moffat College of Education to the Central Business District.
Mr Mulumba said he is also scheduled to engage the Business Community in Serenje District through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs to come to the aid of some challenges being faced in the communities which they are operating from.
The Council Chairperson noted with concern the reduction in the number of students being enrolled because a lot of graduate teachers are still waiting to be recruited by the Ministry of General Education.
Mr Mulumba however encouraged Malcolm Moffat College of Education Maxwell Sikwela to revamp the college farm through crop and livestock diversification in order to mitigate some of the operational challenges being experienced.
Dr Sikwela said despite the recorded challenges the school has continued to be one of best performing College in National Arts and Theater through peotry, drama and choir.
He also said among the students who completed last year, seventeen (17) of them will be graduating with distinctions making Malcolm Moffat College of Education one of the best performing Educational College in Zambia.
And Jennifer Soko who is acting Principal at Serenje Nursing School reported that her management was forced to be enrolling a smaller number of students because of lack of accommodation, furniture and other technical equipment’s.
