Sell KCM as one entity-Chiludika

By ALICE NACHILEMBE

United Party for National Development (UPND) 2021 Nchanga aspiring candidate Derrick Chilundika says Government should Sell KCM as one entity.

Mr Chilundika said the move to pay KCM employees their severance packages is welcome, but splitting the company may have a negative effect.

He said the demand for Government to sell KCM as one entity is because Chingola may be completely killed economically.

Mr Chilundika said the two proposed companies will have no capacity to absorb a number of unemployed youths as well as taking up all current KCM operations.

He said the action of splitting KCM into two companies as stated in the KCM Memo has a long term negative effect on the labor market of Chingola, Chililabombwe, Kitwe and Nampundwe.

Mr Chilundika said the Provisional liquidator should have asked the reason why all experts in the past saw the challenge in splitting the entity into two or more.

He said the company’s units inter support each other and the split up will have a negative effect on each one of them.

Mr Chilundika said splitting the mine is a scam and Zambians must open their eyes and see into the future.

“As an aspiring candidate for Nchanga together with President Hakainde Hichilema we are on record advising government to take keen interest in the affairs of KCM then and we are still maintaining our initial stance up to now.

We also wish to know how KCM schools and hospitals will be shared among the two companies because these entities were not covered in the Memo. These are some of the questions the mining community and affected employees in particular are asking and we are demanding clear answers on their behalf.

He has called on all serving MPs and aspirants for the two Chingola Constituencies regardless of their political divide to rise to this occasion and save our town.
