Sefula Secondary School saddened by Pupil’s death

A sixteen-year-old girl at the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Sefula Secondary School in Mongu District has died after an illness.

Mabuku Mutakatala of Mongu district, a grade 10 pupil, died yesterday around 03:00hrs in her sleep at the school dormitory.

Mutakatala was on Sunday diagnosed with malaria and put on treatment; unfortunately she succumbed to death in the morning.

Western Presbytery Bishop, Rev Roy Kanchele has confirmed the sad development stating that the victim was found dead around 03:00hrs after pupils alerted the school matron.

Bishop Kanchele has disclosed that the parents to the victim have been alerted and funeral gathering is within Mongu district, along Senanga Road.

And United Church of Zambia (UCZ) General Secretary Rev Chipasha Musaba has sent a message of condolences to the bereaved family and the entire Sefula Secondary School community.

Rev Musaba said the death of the young girl is devastating to the Church as a whole and has urged the family to remain steadfast in the lord during this mourning period.

He has wished the family and the School community God’s strengthen and comfort as they mourn their departed loved one.

Meanwhile, School Acting Headteacher Precious Malele has expressed sadness at the untimely death of Mabuku Mutakatala.

Ms Malele said the passing on of Mabuku has left pupils and teachers in shock as the pupil had shown signs of recovery yesterday.

“She actually finished her malaria medication and said she was getting better; this is indeed a shock to all of us.” she said.

The body of the victim has since been deposited in Lewanika General hospital mortuary and burial is expected to be communicated soon.
