A-21-year-old suspected criminal is nursing a gunshot wound after he was shot at by Police in Lusaka’s Central Business District.

The suspect identified as Chewe Kasonde of Chilenje South in Lusaka is suspected to be among the five suspects who attacked and robbed Christopher Hamoonga of money amounting to K4,500 between Kalikiliki and Mtendere Compounds on August 31, 2023.

Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale said brief details of the shooting incident are that on September 6, 2023 around 20:00 hours, the four suspects were spotted along Nkwazi road and immediately scampered in different directions upon noticing Police presence.

Mr Mwale said one of the suspects jumped into a Toyota Mark X bearing registration number CAA 8131. Before he could drive off, he was challenged by the officers but still he decided to drive off after hitting into a Police vehicle.

“Officers pursued and in the process deflated the rear left tyre of his vehicle but still the suspect could not stop until he was caught by a bullet and sustained a wound on his left leg. The suspect was found with a taser gun. He was rushed to the Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment and the motor vehicle was impounded,” he said.

Kasonde is the second suspect to be arrested, a manhunt for the other three suspects continues.
