Ministry of Finance has mobilized funds for the procurement of at least three million doses of the Johnsons & Johnsons Covid-19 vaccine under the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT).

The ministry has also submitted all the requirements under COVAX for the 108,000 AstraZeneca doses and is expected in the country next week.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services Kennedy Malama says the ministry will continue to update the nation on the progress made.

“In the last 24 hours, we recorded 2,913 new confirmed Covid-19 cases out of 12,703 tests conducted representing 23% positivity, bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases recorded to date to 125,157, we also made a total of 1,999 discharges from both the Covid-19 isolation facilities and home management, which brings the cumulative number of recoveries to 103,884 representing 83% recovery rate,” he said.

Dr Malama appreciated the dedication of health workers during the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

He reiterated the need by all Zambians to fellow the five golden Covid-19 guidelines if the spread of the virus is to be contained.
