The Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) has commended the ruling Patriotic Front and opposition political parties for contributing to the growth of intra-party democracy through holding National Conventions.
SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe said the commitment by political parties to allow and deepen the democratic culture is inspiring as it is in line with the desires of the Zambian people for the nation to remain a democratic state.
Mr Cheembe said SACCORD is inspired by the level and quality of peace exhibited by all political parties during their respective national intra-party conventions that ushered in a democratic leadership going into the 2021 general elections.
He said the recognition by ruling party and some of the opposition political parties that their party constitution may still need to be strengthened to make them more democratic is welcome.
“Therefore, SACCORD expects to see more of such democratic and peaceful culture of tolerance and co-existence by all political parties as the nation builds momentum towards the 12 August, 2021 general elections,” he said.
