The process of relocating 89 families of Nchanga and Nyanji Streets in Buntungwa Ward is making steady progression, Nchanga Nchanga Member of parliament Chali Chilombo has said.
Addressing the residents yesterday, Mr Chilombo said Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) had agreed on resettling the families on humanitarian grounds.
He said the bill of quantity had come out and the cost had been reached.
Mr Chilombo said that weather KCM had agreed on humanitarian grounds or not the most the importance thing is that people will be given a safe environment on which they will stay without the fear of the house collapsing.
He said that they are waiting for KCM to write a letter to the council for the land and the council has assure the MP that two places in which land is available once the letter comes from KCM.
“We know that people are living in fear and we know that these cracks have been caused by the mine operations and we will make sure that the do the right thing.
“You should choose representatives who will represent you so that everyone is included no one should be left out,” he said.
The MP also visited the houses that were affected by the mining blasting in Kasala old airport to see on the progress of the compensation process.
Mr Chilombo has urged the people to report if the process is been delayed by the mining firm.
He told the people that they should be compensated accordingly and that they should not fear to list the things that were damaged.
A total of 32 houses where affected by the blast of which 27 houses are from Buntungwa ward and five are from Kasala ward.
Buntungwa Ward Councillor Soko Mumba said the people’s cries had been heard and that the people will be helped accordingly.
Mr Mumba said that the leaders are there to speak for them and they should not listen otherwise to the people who are not helping them.
