Red locusts have invaded Shibuyunji District of Central Province.
Central Province Principal Agricultural Officer (PAO), Julius Malipa, has confirmed the development.
Mr Malipa has disclosed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Ndola locust office has been alerted on the invasion.
He said the swam of locusts suspected to have migrated from Kazungula District are eating green shrubs and pasture on the banks of the Kafue River in Shibuyunji.
The PAO said the locusts are a threat to vegetable growers and pasture in the affected area with a possibility of spreading to neighbouring districts.
Mr Malipa warned that if not controlled the locusts may result into loss of income for vegetable growers while the livestock will also be affected. ZANIS
