Copperbelt based youth activist Geshom Phiri says the decision by ministry to label as ineligible teachers above 45 years is violation of human rights.
Mr Phiri said that it also abrogates the basis of teacher selection as it lacks substance.
He said that the ministry of education should therefore rescind the decision, as all applicants are supposed to be considered.
“The fact that someone did not get employed early or delayed in getting to higher learning institutions does not warranty them to miss out on employment, I therefore urge government to reconsider its decision,” he said.
Mr Phiri said that 45years is not the retirement age of the country, stating that no one should be denied employment because of age.
However, one of the Ministry of Education’s requirements of those who should apply for recruitment, clearly stated that applicants should between 18-44 years.
