Nchanga Member of Parliament Chali Chilombo has urged Mineworkers Union of Zambia to rally behind Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) Provisional Liquidator Milingo Lungu for the sake of developing Zambia.
Officiating at the end of the year MUZ party at the Space in Chingola, Mr Chilombo said the Liquidator has good intentions of creating employment for youths.
He said within few months after he took over KCM, he had let go of the viable Mimbula assets which was meant to create several jobs for the youths.
“Moxico resources of United Kingdom wanted to invest US$30 million in Mimbula mine, thereby create about 800 permanent jobs for local Zambians. Sadly, the same Vedanta that was punishing us now and again has put an injunction restraining the Liquidator from disposing off the Mimbula assets.
“We have several youths in Kasompe and Mimbula that are not unemployed and our hope was that the idle Mimbule mine could have assimilated most them. As leader I urge MUZ to rally behind Milingo Lungu. I know Vedanta is still fighting but honestly speaking we can’t entertain Vedanta anymore,” he said.
Mr Chilombo said the only option for now is how the matter before court can be expeditiously disposed of, so that the wrestle for KCM can end.
