Pupils at Kapisha Primary are safe-KCM

Konkola Copper Mine (KCM) has assured parents with children at Kapisha Primary School that their children are safe.

Parents with children at Kapisha Primary were stopping their children from attending classes because of the impending caving in the ground at Nchanga Open pit as the school is in the same area.

Speaking on behalf of the parents, Freeman Chileshe said parents needed assurance from the company of the safety of their children.

Mr Chileshe said that they can’t take any risks on their children.

And KCM General Manager Corporate Affairs Shapi Shachinda told the parents that the sloughing will not affect anyone at that school or any member of the community.

Mr Shachinda said that parents should let their children continue going to school as safety is assured.

Education Standard Officer Fletcher Mulenga told parent that pupils have limited time because the exams are near and keeping them home is disadvantaging them.

And Chingola Mayor Titus Tembo said parent have nothing to worry about as KCM can’t give them fake assurance because they will be held accountable.

Mr Tembo said the issue at hand is a serious concerned to the government and the mine has put up measures that will ensure the safety of the people.

He said the people are protected and no one will lose a life, children should continue going to school.
