Public Gatherings Bill Ready for Cabinet Approval-Mwiimbu

By Staff Writer
Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister, Jack Mwiimbu, has announced that the Public Gatherings Bill is ready for submission to Cabinet for final consideration.

This bill aims to review the contentious Public Order Act, which has been a subject of debate for some time now.

According to Minister Mwiimbu, the draft bill has taken into account all stakeholder concerns, gathered through a consultative process.

Once enacted, the Public Order Act will be renamed to the Public Gatherings Act, marking a significant shift in the government’s approach to public gatherings and demonstrations.

This development is seen as a testament to the government’s commitment to upholding good governance tenets, as promised by President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration.

The government has demonstrated its resolve to undertake legal reforms aimed at enhancing the rule of law in the country, as seen in the enactment of the Access to Information Law.
