The Presidential Advisor on COVID-19 Professor Roma Chilengi says that the media is an important gatekeeper in as far as disseminating information to the general public is concerned.
Professor Chilengi said this when he held a Media briefing for Journalists in North Western Province with a view of answering questions regarding myths and misconceptions about the COVID-19.
He has challenged Journalists to endeavour to get facts right by verifying information at their disposal.
Professor Chilengi said this is in order to communicate accurately especially in the current technological age where anyone and everyone is able to share information on social media.
He also said that Government has targeted to vaccinate 2 million people countrywide by the end of December, 2021 in order to reach over 30% of the Zambian population.
The Professor challenged all Zambians to take responsibility for their health as no one is safe until everyone is safe in as far as COVID-19 is concerned.
Before that, he reminded the gathering on the adverse impact that the COVD-19 has had on families and the nation at large as well as the tools that Government was employing to fight the COVID-19.
And Solwezi Mayor Remmy Kalepa thanked Government for the platform that had been given to members of the public through the Media to have their questions and concerns regarding the COVID-19, to be comprehensively responded to in order to make informed decisions.
And First Quantum Minerals Public Health Superintendent Mumba Kahilu acknowledged the positive engagements that the Mine is having with Solwezi Municipal Council through the Public Health department in fighting the COVID-19 through community sensitisations in all the 12 Wards in Solwezi district.
