President Lungu’s envoy to Abdullah delivers massage

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Joseph Malanji has delivered a special message from President Edgar Lungu to His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

In his message, President Lungu conveyed greetings to King Abdullah II and expressed gratitude for the invitation extended to Zambia to attend the Aqaba Process follow-up meeting on East Africa.

“This is a clear demonstration of the desire by Jordan to enhance bilateral relations with Zambia,” President Lungu said.

The President informed King Abdullah II that Zambia attached great importance to peace and security initiatives such as Aqaba Process Meeting.

He commended King Abdullah for organizing the Aqaba meetings which had immensely contributed to promotion of global peace and security.

The President said the Aqaba Process meetings encouraged a multi-regional approach to addressing the global scourge of terrorism and violent extremism.

He further said Zambia recognized Jordan as a global leader in various sectors such as health, pharmaceuticals, training of health personnel, defence and security.

President Lungu said also noted that Jordan had established a legacy of developing high quality human capital which was key to its historic economic growth and Zambia looks forward to cooperating with Jordan in these fields.

In response, King Abdullah II thanked President Lungu for ensuring Zambia’s participation in the Aqaba Process follow-up meeting on East Africa to kick-start high-level interaction between the two countries.

King Abdullah II emphasised the importance of high-level interaction between the two countries and extended an invitation to President Lungu to undertake a State Visit to Jordan in the first quarter of 2019.

The King assured that Jordan stands ready to co-operate with Zambia in various areas such as pharmaceuticals industry, military and defence cooperation.

Jordan has agreed to establish frameworks of cooperation with Zambia through initiating Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for mutual benefit of the two countries.

The Minister was accompanied to the meeting by Ministry of Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary in-charge of International Relations and Co-operation, Ambassador Chalwe Lombe and Zambia’s Ambassador to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Dr Joseph Chilengi.
