President HH to attend the BRICS-Africa outreach and BRICS plus dialogues in South Africa

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation wishes to inform the nation that Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia will attend the BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogues which is scheduled to take place on 24th August, 2023 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

His Excellency Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa will host the BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogues, alongside the 15th BRICS Summit. Deliberations of the Summit will focus on strengthening mutually beneficial partnerships for growth, development, peace, and inclusive multilateralism in a multi-polar world.

President Hichilema, in his capacity as the Chairperson of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), will also participate in the BRICS roundtable on, “Promoting African Integration and Jointly Building a High-Level Africa-China Community with a shared Future”. The roundtable discussions will be Co-chaired by President Ramaphosa and Mr. Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China.

The invitations for the roundtable have been extended to all eight Chairs of the African Union’s Regional Economic Communities, the Chairperson of the African Union, the co-chair of Forum on China Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the Chairperson of the African Union Commission.

The Summit will be preceded by the BRICS Exhibition from 19th to 23rd August, 2023 and a Business Forum on 22nd August, 2023.

President Hichilema’s high-level engagements at the BRICS-Africa Outreach and BRICS Plus Dialogues are crucial as Zambia advances the greater integration agenda and shared commitment to the economic prosperity of the continent through creation of strong partnerships, among other key initiatives aimed at bolstering development and improving people’s livelihoods.

The President is expected to return to Zambia immediately after his engagements.
