President HH Launches Construction of Lusaka-Ndola Dual Carriageway

President Hakainde Hichilema has officially launched the construction of the 327-kilometer Lusaka-Ndola and Fisenge-Masangano dual carriageway. The President pledged the government’s continued commitment to fostering sustainable development through improved infrastructure for the benefit of the local community.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Hichilema expressed concern over the increasing number of road traffic accidents on the road, emphasizing the need for lasting solutions. “This road has claimed many lives, and it’s essential we take action to reduce fatalities. The government is responding by building this road, which will save lives and improve business operations,” he said.

The President highlighted the importance of the infrastructure project, noting that the road is a critical transit route to neighboring countries and will boost trade and investment. He also mentioned that the project will create jobs and stimulate economic growth.

In his remarks, President Hichilema revealed that Zambia, Tanzania, and China will soon sign an agreement on the overhaul of the TAZARA railway line. He also praised the Chinese government for its support in Zambia’s infrastructure modernization program.

The Chinese government, through its Minister Consular at the Chinese Embassy in Zambia, Wang Sheng, pledged continued support for Zambia’s development agenda. The House of Chiefs Chairperson, Chief Nkambo, also expressed support for the government’s development initiatives.

The Lusaka-Ndola dual carriageway project is expected to take three years to complete and will cost $650 million, significantly less than the initial estimated cost of $2 billion.
