Political Activist Chanda Mulenga has congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema for embarking on the process to amend the Public Order Act, Cap 113 of the Laws of Zambia.
President Hakainde Hichilema Chaired the 9th Cabinet meeting to discuss general policy issues at which Cabinet approved in principle, the introduction of a Bill in Parliament to amend the Public Order.
Mr Mulenga echoed Cabinet’s position that the amendment of the Public Order Act was necessary in order to develop a legal framework that regulates public assemblies, processions and meetings anchored on constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights and freedoms.
He agreed with the Cabinet that the Public Order Act had gone through a number of amendments in response to emerging issues largely attributed to changes in political and social dynamics in the governance systems of Zambia, the region and the world.
Mr Mulenga said he was confident that the New Dawn Government would come up with a sound legislation which would not only stand the test of time, but also one that promoted the public good.
