Bloggers of Zambia Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Richard Mulonga has called for enhanced collaboration between Journalists and the Zambia police service in order to contribute to the development of democracy in the country.
Speaking during the Copperbelt Media Dialogue Forum held at Sherbourne Hotel in Kitwe, Mr Mulonga said there is need for the media and the police to improve relations so that they can work together.
Mr Mulonga said this will help to avoid friction between the institutions, especially when handling issues of public interest that involves police and Journalists.
He said the police have the duty to provide safety and security to Journalists hence the need to work together.
“We need to strength police media relations because without the police Journalism will always remain weak and without Journalists democracy will be weedy without freedom of expression in the country, so we need to understand each other’s work because we need each other,” he said.
And Zambia Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale has commended Bloggers of Zambia for coming up with a workshop that solely focusing on improving police and Journalists.
Mr Mwale said that this will change a misconception both police and journalists have towards each other which have affected their operations.
