The controversial Zambian singer Fumba Chama popularly known as Pilato has been released on bail following his re-arrest upon entering the country.
Pilato ended his four month self-imposed exile and walked straight into police custody after being rearrested by police at the airport.
Pilato had fled the country in December 2017 claiming that his life was threatened following his song –‘Koswe mu Mpoto.’
But today the Lusaka magistrate Mwaka Mikalile re-granted Pilato a K30, 000 bail with two working sureties following the application by his Legal Counsels Keith Mweemba and Gilbert Phiri.
He was granted bail initially but he jumped it and in his absence the court issued a bench warrant and an international interpol arrest warrant.
Pilato chose to return home voluntarily to face the case.
He is facing a case of breaching Public Order Act when he and five of his colleagues from civil society staged what authorities termed as an illegal and unauthorized protest.
The matter was adjourned to June 25, 2018, for commencement of trial.
