PF woes deepen in Eastern Province

By Onishias Maamba
Confusion has continued to intensify in the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) following the indefinite suspension of Eastern Province Youth Chairperson Emmanuel Banda.

The youths have described the move as null and void.

And youths have called for the immediate reversal of the decision, warming that any delays to doing so will result in them pouncing on all individuals behind the move which they term illegal.

Speaking during a press briefing in Chipata yesterday, Maxson Nkhoma a PF member from Chipangali accused the provincial committee of not following laid down procedures before censuring Mr Banda.

Mr Nkoma holds that the PF constitution has clear guidelines which ought to be followed when mating out punishment on any erring member.

He has charged that the move to suspend the regional youth chairperson has been done out of malice and selfish motives.

And Mr Nkhoma has noted that the reconciliation process which was initiated after the hosting of the province conference has proved to be a sham, stressing that divisions and hatred has taken centre stage in the region.

But in a sharp contrast, party regional secretary Joseph Kolosa says allegations that the provincial committee failed to follow all disciplinary channels are unfounded.

Mr. Kolosa holds that adequate counsel and guidance was given to Mr. Banda on how to conduct himself, but that he never heed to any of it.

Mr Banda and Eastern Provincial Information and Publicity Secretary (IPS) William Phiri were suspended for gross misconduct.

Mr Banda is accused of committing political atrocities where is he is forming parallel political structures to run the bus stations.

For Mr Phiri, it was abuse of social media where he went rampant insulting on the social media platform.
