PF scoops Mwininyilamba ward election

By Victor Mwila in Ikelenge
The Patriotic Front (PF) has scooped the Mwininyilamba ward by-election in Ikelenge district, Northwestern Province, in what appears to be a wind of change for the ruling party in the border town.

Joswell Sankeng’a of the PF polled 293 votes beating his only contender Lesmord Kaumba of the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) who got 281 votes.

Total votes cast were 576 with only one ballot rejected.

Ikelenge District Returning Officer, Charles Havuluma, declared Joswell Sankeng’a as winner of the ward by-election at about 20:50 hrs this evening.

Mwininyilamba ward fell vacant following the resignation of UPND councillor Goodson Kapaku.

The local government seat will be the first one to he held by the PF in a predominantly UPND council/ZANIS.
