PF MPs shock President Edgar Lungu

By JOHN SAKALA
President Edgar Lungu is shocked that the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) Members of Parliament have been plotting to undermine the office of mayors in the country.

The other shock was that the MPs wanted to amend the running mate clause so that the President can just appoint whoever he wanted.

And thirdly, the National Dialogue Forum (NDF) has resolved that article 72 be amended and allow sitting parliamentarians to continue in office even during elections and just handover to the elected new bearers.

Speaking after being briefed at the Local Government Association of Zambia 63rd Annual General Conference of the MPs evil plot, President Lungu said that Members of Parliament should not use the National Dialogue Forum to politically fix Mayors.

He said their proposal to amend article 147 and article 154 of the current constitution was meant to weaken councils and the position of an elective Mayor.

And speaking earlier out going Local Government Association of Zambia President Christopher Kang’ombe told the President that mayors were rejecting the amendments because they are against the principles of decentralization.

The President has been the lone fighter and protector of Mayors’ office in the country while MPs are busy planning on how to weaken the office of the mayors.
