Petauke imbecile killer nabbed

 Police in Petauke have arrested Susan Phiri suspected to be of unsound mind, in connection with the death of her one year three months old male child.

Phiri 37, of Zuze Village, Chief Kalindawalo of Petauke is alleged to have hit her child with a handle of a hoe and the child died on the spot after sustaining a deep cut on the head.

This happened yesterday, May 13, 2018 at about 08:00hours in Zuze village.

Phiri is detained in Police custody while the body of the deceased is in Petauke District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.

Meanwhile, two people died on the spot while three others sustained serious injuries after they were involved in a road traffic accident which occurred yesterday, 13th May, 2018 around 20 30 hours  on Solwezi – Mutanda road at Mutanda bridge when the motor vehicle Toyota Noah registration number BAD 3488 they were in overturned.

The deceased have been identified as Rosemary Jitata aged 42 of Kyawama Compound in Solwezi and Gladys Yalubamba aged 41, a teacher at Manyama Primary School.

The accident happened when the driver identified as Martin Malata aged 34 of Wisdom Compound lost control of the motor vehicle as it was moving towards Mutanda Bridge, in the process hit into bridge guardrails, overturned and rested in its normal position few meters before Mutanda River.

The injured were rushed to Solwezi General Hospital while the bodies of the deceased are in the same hospital mortuary.

And on the Copperbelt, two people died while 15 others sustained injuries in an accident which happened yesterday, 13th May, 2018 at about 1020 hours on Ndola – Luanshya Road.

The deceased are the driver of a Toyota Hiace mini bus registration number AFB 2441, Francis Chilekwa aged 23 who was pronounced dead on arrival at Roan Mine Hospital in Luanshya and a female passenger Purity Mulenga aged 39 of Mikomfwa in Luanshya who died at Thomson Hospital. The injured are in Roan Mine and Thomson Hospitals respectively.

The accident happened when the driver of the motor vehicle lost control due to excessive speed hence the motor vehicle over turned.

This is according to a media statement to The Independent Observer by Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo.
