Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP) President Sean Tembo says that he is disappointed with the conduct of the University of Zambia (UNZA) Management this morning for directing its security guards to clamp the two party vehicles while he was featuring on the UNZA Radio Lusaka Star program.
Mr Tembo said that Upon completion of the radio program, him and his entourage walked to the parking lot and discovered that the two party vehicles a Toyota Landcruiser and a Nissan Caravan Bus were clamped, while other vehicles which belonged to other unknown people and which were parked at the same parking lot were not clamped.
He said after an effort to find out why the vehicles were clamped out all nearby security guards expressed ignorance about the matter.
“One of the UNZA staff members however approached the PeP Presidential Candidate and explained that the clamping of the party’s vehicles was ordered by UNZA Management as they were unhappy with what the PeP Presidential Candidate said while on UNZA Radio; that “the PF Government had failed and needed to be replaced” and that “any other Zambian would make a better Republican President than Mr Lungu.
“The PeP Presidential Candidate subsequently tried to engage the UNZA Management to try and resolve the matter, and he specifically called the UNZA Registrar Dr. Lubinda Haabazoka, but his phone went unanswered.
With a resolution of the matter nowhere in sight, him and his entourage subsequently decided to arrange for alternative transport and leave the clamped vehicles behind, as he had another urgent scheduled media engagement at 10hrs,” he said.
Mr Tembo condemned the apparent politicization of state institutions such as the University of Zambia, which appear to have been turned into instruments for intimidation of opposition leaders.
He said that funded institution such as UNZA should not take sides in the country’s politics and management positions of such state institutions should not be occupied by known political cadres.
“ we are hopeful that the UNZA Management will release our vehicles at the earliest possible time as the current detention is adversely affecting our political activities during this crucial campaign period, “he said.
