Pastor attempt to committee suicide

A-56-year-old pastor at a named church in Luanshya is fighting for his life after he attempted to commit suicide by taking doom insecticide at the church.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba said brief facts of the matter are that on November 4, 2023 at around 22:00hrs Mambeu Anthony informed the wife that he wanted to resign from being the pastor.

Mr Mweemba said after that he made several phone calls to his fellow Pastors and his church members over his resignation.

He later left home giving instructions that the gate be locked and he never returned home.

Mr Mweemba said on Sunday November 5, 2023, the wife tried to call him but the phone went unanswered not until at around 08:00 hours when Anthony called the wife that he was at church.

“The wife then called Lungu George to take the keys to the Pastor at the church but upon his arrival he found the church already opened. When he entered he found the Pastor lying unconscious at the pulpit with foam coming from his mouth,” he said.

He said the matter was reported to Leonard Mpundu Police Station.

Mr Mweemba said Police rushed to the scene and found the Pastor lying unconscious with foam coming from his mouth.

He also said at the scene with the Pastor was a polythene rope, bottle of mineral water, Doom insecticide bottle.

“His ulcer medications and a suicide note were he thanked a few people and apologizing to the church for dying in such a manner and that his life is a sacrifice. He also “stated” – that his wife has been mistreating him for 25 years,” he said.

Officers rushed him to Thompson District Hospital for medical attentions where he is currently admitted in an unstable condition for now.
