Pack and go, PF youths on the Copperbelt chides KCM

By ALICE NACHILEMBE
The youths from the ruling Patriotic Front (PF) on the Copperbelt have advised Vedanta Minerals running Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) to pack and go if they have failed to run the mine.

PF Youth Copperbelt chairperson Nathan Bwalya popularly known as Nathan Chanda says Vedanta must pack and go if it has failed to run the mine, as opposed to subjecting the people of Chingola especially the youths to untold misery.

Mr Bwalya who is also Luanshya Mayor expressed disappointment in the manner Vedanta owners of KCM are conducting business in Zambia.

He said it was sad to see Vedanta subject youths to misery which is an indication of failure to run the mine.

Mr Bwalya and PF provincial youth executive are on a tour of districts on the province as part of the PF Youth interactive initiative.

He said that he was saddened that youths in Chingola have continued to complain about the manner in which KCM is running the mine.

“They have failed to pay the Suppliers, pay electricity then what do they want? Does KCM want to mine for free? What is even more shocking is that KCM has waited for the Government to even construct the roads that led to the mine main entrance. KCM should be ashamed.

“Better they pack and go; this is what happened in Luanshya at some point under RAMCOZ. We need to have a win-win situation where an investor and a common man is happy,” he said.

Meanwhile Mr Bwalya has praised the PF Government for working on the roads in Chingola a program which will be spread across all the districts of the Copperbelt as part of the link Zambia.
