Over 500, 000 people will benefit from Mulonga Water project

Minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Jonas Chanda says over 500,000 residents of Chingola, Chililabombwe and Mufulira will benefit from the water project being implemented in Chingola by government through Mulonga Water and Sanitation Company.

Dr Chanda said government wants to ensure access to safe clean drinking water and sanitation.

He said when people have clean water and good sanitation they dignified lives.

Speaking when he visited Chingola to check on some of the projects undertaken by Mulonga Water, Dr Chanda said government wants to work closely with the water utilities in the country to ensure they excel.

He said the upgrading of water and Sanitation by Mulonga Water will improve service delivery.

Dr Chanda said government is ensuring that infrastructure development matches with the growing population to provide undisrupted water supply and ultimately meet various developmental target.

He was optimistic that Zambia will meet the vision 2030 target of providing universal water coverage without leaving anyone.

Dr Chanda said that all the projects being done are well planned for the future not to encounter water coverage challenges amidst the growing population.

He called for the speedy completion of the project so that challenges of water and sanitation can be a thing of the past.

Dr Chanda called for protection of water bodies.

And Mulonga Water Supply and Sanitation Managing Director Rueben Kaira said that the water utility is nearing the 100% water and sanitation coverage for Chingola.

Mr Kaira said thi is due to massive infrastructure development with government’s support.
