Over 25 visually impaired families who were living in the streets of Kitwe district along second class trading area have been repatriated to their various districts among them Ndola and Luanshya.
And Kitwe District Commissioner Lawrence Mwanza said that most people living on the streets especially children have been contributing to theft as they are used by criminals to gather information on shops.
Mr Mwanza said the repatriation exercise will not only bring sanity and order in the district but provide a safe environment for the 25 families as well as allow children go back to school.
He also said that his office working together with the mayor’s office will not hesitate to engage police officers to ensure that no one is allowed to return back to the streets.
“The Government cannot help you when you on the streets, this time education is free for no this reason, children need to go back to school rather than staying on the streets,” he said.
And Kitwe Mayor Mpasa Mwaya has called on the business community and other well-wishers to come on board and supplement government’s effort of removing street kids from the Central Business District (CBD).
“We would like to appeal to the General public here in Kitwe to partner with us and render support to our street mothers, we want like a situation where whatever support come in be to channeled properly,” she said.
