The Higher Education Loans and Scholarships Board has awarded 2,125 first year students at Copper belt University (CBU) for the 2022-2023 academic year.
Board Senior Corporate Communications Officer Chiselwa Kawanda said the number picked is from 4,846 applications received for sponsorship from CBU.
Ms Kawanda said the some applicants were ineligible as a result of completing Grade 12 before 2018 and non-attachment of required documents.
She said others are because they were already awarded at other Institutions, being older than 24 years and students admitted to diploma and evening programmes.
Ms Kawanda said the Board also received 8 applications from students living with disabilities who include 7 males and 1 female.
“The 2,015 students awarded loans are from rural areas while 2,831 are from urban areas” she said.
