Over 20 houses collapse in Chingola

By Jane Simalumba
Over 20 families of Kafue Hippo-Pool area in Chingola have been left homeless after their houses collapsed due to the heavy rains experienced over the weekend.

A check by Chingola District Commissioner, Mary Chibesa found a number of houses collapsed and others had developed cracks and are on a verge of collapsing.

Ms Chibesa has since appealed to the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to quickly come to the aid of the affected families.

She has assured the victims that government will do everything possible to ensure that help is rendered.

And one of the victims Mary Bwalya said her family is spending sleepless nights in the cold adding that they are not safe especially now when the country is experiencing gassing incidences.

Ms Bwalya has since appealed to government to quickly come in and help the affected families before lives are lost.

She said other victims are spending nights in their neighbours’ houses which she said is inconveniencing.

Meanwhile, Kabungo Ward Councillor Richard Mutale has thanked the District Commissioner for taking her time to appreciate the situation/ZANIS.
