Online Consumerers urged to be patient

By ALICE NACHILEMBE

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has advised  consumers who have purchased products online to exercise patience as their goods may take more time than usual due to the impact the Covid-19 has had on the courier business.

CCPC Senior Public Relations Officer Namukolo Kasumpa said recently the commission has been receiving an influx of consumer complaints regarding the delay in receiving of goods and parcels purchased online from various parts of the world.

Ms Kasumpa said the investigations conducted by the Commission in a number of cases have revealed that delay of the goods purchased online has been a consequence of the Covid-19 restrictions enforced in other countries.

She said the Commission would like to advise consumers affected by such cases to exercise patience and exhaust all available options of redress with the respective service providers before coming to lodge a complaint with the Commission having considered the aforementioned reasons for the delays.

Ms Kasumpa has also urged consumers using online freight to consider selecting secure purchase options such as insuring their goods before purchase to minimise on any possible loss.
