A one year two months old baby is among the 47 people to have succumbed to the Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Technical Services Kennedy Malama said the country has also recorded 2,395 new cases out of 9-Thousand 9-Hundred and 52 tests.

“Although our daily number of mortalities remains high, we saw the lowest number of deaths recorded in over a week, with 47 new deaths reported in the last 24 hours. Of the new deaths, 55% were females and 45 % male. The youngest patient we lost was a one year two-month old male known HIV-positive who was not on treatment (this death was classified as a COVID-19 associated death) whereas the oldest patient lost was an 86-year-old female with a history of hypertension and a previous stroke,” he said.

Dr Malama said the cumulative number of Covid-19 confirmed cases is now at 152,056, with 128, 31 patients to have been discharged.

“When faced with a situation such as the current third wave, the number of unaccredited information sources swells and this severely hampers response efforts. We urge the public to be weary of online media and the dangers of misinformation,” he said.

Dr Malama says the ministry of health has continued to stress the importance of seeking medical attention early

He advised against self-attempting to medicate as this makes the severity of the illness and leads to delays in seeking care from qualified personnel
